The Legislative Branch of Wilton Rancheria is represented by the Tribal Council, which serves as the governing body of the Tribe. Among its members, the Tribal Council selects a Spokesperson and Vice Spokesperson to preside over its meetings.
The Tribal Council holds broad responsibilities, including but not limited to:
- Enacting laws, codes, resolutions, and statutes.
- Authorizing expenditures and approving budgets for the Tribe’s departments.
- Reviewing and approving agreements that waive sovereign immunity.
- Advancing public health, education, charitable efforts, and other services that foster the well-being and social progress of the Tribe’s members.
To ensure transparency and community engagement, all proposed acts and amendments undergo a 30-day public review and hearing period before the Tribal Council considers their final approval.
Members of the Tribal Council are elected by a majority vote of Wilton Rancheria’s eligible voters and serve staggered four-year terms, promoting continuity and stability in Tribal governance.
Meeting Minutes and agendas are distributed to Wilton Rancheria citizens on a weekly basis.
