Personal Background
My name is Mary Rangel (Taylor). I am the youngest daughter of 6 children born to Raymond and Rachael Taylor. I am a descendant of Ella Taylor (Porter), one of the original Distributees of the Wilton Rancheria. I have been married for 50 years, and we have been blessed with three children and three grandchildren.
Tribal Experience
I volunteered as the Wilton Rancheria Secretary from 2004-2010 where I ensured the accurate record recording of all Tribal Council meetings and decisions. I also certified minutes, resolutions, ordinances, and other actions of the Tribal Council, and submitted copies of minutes of all meetings to the Tribal Council.
I was elected to Tribal Council in the first 2010 Interim Tribal Council election, and as a result, I played a role in the lawsuit that finally restored the Tribe to Federal Recognition. The Interim Tribal Council created the Tribal Constitution and Tribal Membership.
I have served on the Election Commission, Elders Committee, Ethics/Grievance Committee and now the Traditional Court. It is an honor to serve on the Traditional Court.
Professional History
I worked for the State of California EDD Investigation Division and retired in 2005 after 27 years of service as an Analyst. The Division investigated unemployment and disability fraud. I was responsible for operating, analyzing, and maintaining records from the database related to the Fictitious Employer Detection System which was devoted to detection of fraudulent employer registrations. I represented the Investigation Division in Appeal hearings, in person and by telephone, based upon the claimants needs.
My family created a very successful business called Wedding Day Flowers, and we served the Sacramento/El Dorado Hills area for 13 years. I have great knowledge and leadership experience learned through my company, such as management, providing great customer service to the public, organizing bookkeeping, handling funds, creating designs, and building great relationships with clients and vendors.
My goal for serving on the Traditional Court is to pursue fundamental fairness and equity for all parties in each case.
My commitment the Court is to continue to honor the inherent right of individuals and to protect the sovereignty of our Tribe. It is with great honor to serve on the first Wilton Rancheria Traditional Court and to serve the members of my Tribe.
