In a lengthy meeting, in front of a packed city council chamber, the Elk Grove City Council approved an MOU (memorandum of understanding) with the Wilton Rancheria Tribe on the proposed casino to be located in Elk Grove near the still unfinished outlet mall. The vote was 5-0. A majority of the speakers were in favor of the MOU and the casino. There were 45 people signed up to speak.

Elk Grove City Council members voted unanimously Wednesday night to approve a casino development agreement with the Wilton Rancheria, providing a major boost to the local tribe's effort to build a gambling destination along Highway 99.

The Elk Grove City Council on Sept. 28 will consider approving a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Wilton Rancheria Indian tribe for a casino near Highway 99 and Kammerer Road.

A south Sacramento County tribe has reached a tentative agreement with the city of Elk Grove to build the region’s next major casino resort on Highway 99 next to a planned outlet mall.

The Elk Grove Police Officers Association (EGPOA) has been engaged in several meetings with the Wilton Rancheria to brainstorm ideas related to the potential impacts both positive and negative their proposed casino could present. 

On Wednesday, Elk Grove will consider making a deal valued at $131 million over 20 years with the tribe of the Wilton Rancheria to allow the tribe to develop a $400 million casino in the city.

Elk Grove, CA—Aug. 30—United Pastors of Sacramento, the region’s largest association of multi-denominational, multi-ethnic pastors, has announced its “strong support” for Wilton Rancheria’s planned resort and casino project in Elk Grove.

The anti-casino group known as Protect Elk Grove held a meeting last week in hopes of organizing grassroots opposition to the proposed casino in Elk Grove.

For most of us, the new casino resort that’s expected to open in Elk Grove in four to seven years will simply provide a new local entertainment option.

But for members of the long-impoverished Wilton Rancheria tribe, the project could change their world.
