The ‘final order’ upholds the U.S. Department of the Interior’s decision to place tribal land in federal trust.

The demolition on 36 acres of Tribal Land in Elk Grove marks the beginning of the end to the grim reminder  of the economic crash of 2008. Wilton Rancheria looks forward to the project’s next phase and eventual groundbreaking.

Contrary to popular belief, this is not the beginning of construction. That will come later this year. This week the Wilton Rancheria began drill testing on the site of the long awaited Wilton Rancheria Casino in Elk Grove. Heavy equipment was brought into the casino site this week. Elk Grove Laguna News contacted Raymond “Chuckie” Hitchcock, Chairman of the tribe about the activity, and he issued the following statement:

The Elk Grove City Council on Oct. 12 voted 4-0 to approve a change to a development agreement on the 35.9-acre site of the proposed, $400 million Wilton Rancheria casino and resort.
